Etlingera yunnanensis (T. L. Wu & S. J. Chen) R. M. Sm. (Zingiberaceae) new record for the flora of Vietnam

The genus Etlingera comprises about 70 species mainly distributed in the tropics. There are 5 Etlingera species recorded in Vietnam. In this paper, we report Etlingera yunnanensis (T. L. Wu & S. J. Chen) R. M. Sm. new record for the flora of Vietnam. The specie is found in Nghệ An province (Pù Mát National Park: Khe Kèm), deposited in the Herbarium and herbarium of Vietnam Museum National (VNMN).

Etlingera yunnanensis has the following chachacters: Pseudostems tufted, 2-3 m. Ligule ovate, entire, 1-1.5 cm; petiole ca. 5 mm; leaf blade lanceolate, 50-70 x 7-15 cm, glabrous. Inflorescence a head borne on surface of ground; peduncle embedded in ground, short; bracts red, ovate, 2.3-3.1 cm X 2-3 cm; bracteoles tubular, ca. 2.7 cm x 8 mm. Flowers numerous, 4-6 opening together in a circle, red. Calyx 3.5-4 cm, apex 3-toothed. Corolla shorter than calyx. Labellum exserted from corolla, purple at center, bright yellow at margin, free part 2.5-3 cm, apex 2-cleft. Free part of filament ca. 5 mm; anther 6-8 mm. Ovary ca. 5 x 2-3 mm, pubescent. Capsule turbinate, 2.5-3 x 1.8-2 cm, red- purple, densely pubescent.
